Getting to Clun 

By Road   On the A49 between Ludlow and Shrewsbury at Craven Arms turn into B4368, signed to Clun, and follow the valley for 9 miles.  From Bishop's Castle or Knighton use the A488. From Wales, on the A489 Newtown to Churchstoke road there is a beautiful scenic drive over the hills into Clun.  Near Kerry turn off onto the B4368; this road, narrow in places, takes you up high (at the top on a fine day there is a panoramic view of Wales), then through the Clun Forest to Anchor and Newcastle-on-Clun.  On coming into Clun there is a good view of Clun Castle on your left.  For more information go to Map

By Train   The nearest station is at Craven Arms on the Wales and Borders line.  This line runs from Cardiff to Manchester with interchange stations at Shrewsbury for Birmingham, Liverpool, Chester, and at Newport for London (Paddington) and to stations in West Wales.  For local information on visit Wales and Borders   For information on national train times go to UK Rail  If you are travelling by rail you will find that most B & B hosts will arrange for you to be picked up at Craven Arms station.

Parking There is limited parking space at Clun Bridge Car Park.  Please use instead the free car park at Memorial Hall (70 spaces) which is a short walk from the castle and the centre of the village.

Early Closing Day - Wednesday from 1 pm although Davies Newsagents is open Wednesdays and Saturdays until 6.30 pm.  Clun Post Office is open all day 9 am - 5.30 pm including Wednesdays. Please note  that most other establishments close for lunch between 1 pm and 2 pm every day.  D Britten, Ironmonger, closes all day on Wednesdays.

Bus Service  Valley Link Bus Service 745 from Clun to Craven Arms and Ludlow, and more limited services to Knighton, Bishop's Castle, Newtown and Shrewsbury.  Details in a leaflet available from Clun Garage, or by 'phoning 01743 253036 or email Passtrans giving postal address.

Clun Forest Shuttle Bus  a new service operating Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, April to November 2003.  It takes a circular route linking Bishop's Castle, Sarn, Kerry, Anchor, Newcastle-on-Clun, Mainstone, Clun, Clunton, Bury Ditches, Lydbury North, Bishop's Castle.  An adult day rover gives unlimited travel on all Shropshire Hills Shuttles - a bargain at £3.  There is also a Family Day Rover (2 adults, 2 children) for £7.  This Shuttle Bus links with the Secret Hills Shuttle Bus, which runs from Craven Arms to Bishop's Castle and Bridges.  Further information on the Clun Forest Shuttle please call Ruth on 07971 090 687.  For information on other Shropshire Hills Shuttles phone 01588 673 893 or visit Shropshire Hills Shuttles   Walking leaflets are available from Tourist Information Centres and Points.

• Clun Post Office - internal cash machine.  Free cash withdrawal for Lloyds, Barclays, Alliance & Leicester Open 9 am - 5.30 pm, Monday to Saturday

• HSBC at Bishop's Castle, Craven Arms, and Knighton.  All branches have external cash machines

• Barclays Bank at Bishop's Castle, Craven Arms, Knighton.  All branches have external cash machines

• National Westminster at Ludlow with external cash machine

• Lloyds TSB at Ludlow with external cash machine

• Fayre 'n Square, Market Square, Clun and The White Horse PH, Clun provide a cash back service.

Library in the Garage at Clun: Opening hours Monday to Saturday 8.00 am to 6.00 pm.  You may borrow upto 10 books and books are issued free.  Your library ticket is valid in all Shropshire Libraries and on the mobiles.  Books are normally issued for 3 weeks.  You may request any book you require that is not on the shelves.  There is a charge for this service of 70p except for children and full-time students under 19 on course work.  The whole stock of Shropshire Libraries is listed on a catalogue that is easy to use.

Mobile Library calls at Clun Bridge Car Park (9.15-10.20 am) and Hazelhurst Close (10.25-11.05 am) every Tuesday morning.  Other libraries in the area are at:
