What's On

Supported by the Community Fund

Clun Memorial Hall and Playing Fields

A registered charity run by volunteers for the benefit of the community of Clun and the surrounding area.

The hall is situated in sight of the castle with the Shropshire Hills all around.  The grounds are extensive with play areas and areas to picnic or take a gentle stroll.  The main part of the hall was built in 1976/7 with an extension in 1995.  The roof and upper wall cladding was in a bad state.  In June we were awarded a £79,500 Lottery Grant to get the hall ingood repair.  Work commenced on the roof in late September and finsihed at the end of October.   The main hall floor was also in a very poor state. This has now been replaced although it took three months and meant that the hall was unavailable for bookings.  The floor was finally finished just before Christmas - it looks superb. Having achieved these two major tasks, we will be undertaking redecorating and making good those bits of the hall that suffered from our old leaking roof.

The hall has no showers or changing facilities for sports.  This is a drawback as we have an enthusiastic group of young footballers as well as adults playing tennis and badminton.  When our current refurbishment is complete our next project will be to raise funds for changing facilities.

Facilities:  Large dual-purpose hall suitable for indoor sports, dances and concerts.  The hall has a well equipped stage area with dressing room.  There is an adjoining lounge/bar that can be opened up for parties and dances.  Closed off from the main hall the lounge/bar can be used as a small meeting room.  In addition thre is a small committee room.  There is a well-equipped kitchen,  The hall can accommodate 300 for dances or 230 seated for concerts and plays.  There is full access for people with mobility difficulties and a disabled toilet.  There is aplaying pitch and a floodlit ball court.  The car park accommodates 74 cars.  There is a well-equipped Children's Play Area recently refurbished following a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board.  There are picnic areas in the grounds

The hall can be hired for private parties, dances, dinners - contact John Thorpe on 01588 640254 for details or email [email protected]
